What is a Medicare Annual Wellness Visit?

The Medicare Annual Wellness Visit (AWV) is an important benefit designed to promote health and focus on early disease detection and prevention. The AWV is not a physical exam by your doctor but a one-on-one discussion with a Registered Nurse about your health history, your goals, and any concerns you may have. It is also a chance to create a wellness plan for the year ahead.

The Medicare Annual Wellness Visit (AWV) and Medicare-covered preventative screenings are free but other services that may be recommended, including lab work that may be ordered during the visit, will be billed at normal rates.
